Thanks to Westbourne Grammar School

Kampuchea House is most grateful and fortunate to have Westbourne Grammar School as our major sponsor. The financial contribution Westbourne has made over the past nine years has supported much of what we have achieved to date. We also have a fantastic time during their annual visit by the students from years 10, 11 and 12 which is a highlight of the year for our children.

This year their fundraising efforts, which are driven primarily by the students, raised the most we have ever received. The efforts of the students from kindergarten to Year 12 were amazing. A huge well-done to all.
We were very humbled to receive the cheque at the recent final assembly where we acknowledged that this will be a key contribution in enabling us to support our education program for all our children to enable them to complete year 12 and, should they wish to, continue with tertiary education.

We were also surprised and delighted to receive an absolutely stunning quilt made by a Year 5 student. In presenting the quilt she said – “after watching my mum, aunty and grandmother making quilts for so long I thought I would try to make one for the children at Kampuchea House. I made a quilt for an orphan because I wanted to give them something they could keep forever. Quilting has been in my family for generations, in fact one of my family member’s quilts is in the Immigration Museum. Making the quilt was very tricky and I made lots of mistakes along the way. Luckily I had good teachers in my family and they helped me fix my mistakes. I would spend a couple of hours every weekend working on it and 10 months later I finished the quilt. I put a lot of time into this quilt because I know it will go to a child who needs a warm hug. Today it gives me great pleasure to present the quilt to Kampuchea House”. Thank you so much for your kindness and time in making the quilt – you have done a terrific job and we will be giving the quilt to one of our children next January. Your family should be very proud of you.

On behalf of all of the children, staff and committee at Kampuchea House we thank all involved at Westbourne for your support during 2017 which is having a major and positive impact on the future lives of each and every one of our children.
